Weely Review: Transition and Change
As we work towards the final two weeks of term, we begin to have thoughts on to the next stages in the life of Smithton ELC and Primary.
Primary 7 are about to hand over the reigns to our present P6s in terms of being buddies for our new P1s and new Ambassadors taking over their roles.
P6s have filled in application forms to be viewed by our new Head Teacher and the quality of writing displayed to fill in the application is remarkable.
Here are a couple of snapshot application entries.
Our P7s meanwhile move on to Culloden Academy on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week coming.
Highland Council Workforce Planning are currently working on whether we will have 14 or 15 classes and we already know there is movement of staff that have been working on fixed term contracts. Once this is finalized we will be able to finalize classes for next Session.
Even though we have change as a theme our Monday gardening club keep our school attractive to visitors.
Even snow today: end of June!
We had a great school show this week and children all enjoyed the experience. There was a theme there too of change to support our children's future. P7 gave a very powerful and poignant movement performance to illustrate Canadian poet John McCrae's poem.
Even with all our changes Smithton PS has life and keeps being strong!
We have some staff trained as Seasons For Growth Companions who help children who have experienced death, loss or grief in their lives. The children experience activities to help cope with the change as a result of this. Ms Megan Boyle and Mrs Lauren Ferguson led our present group and certificates were presented to our participants today.
We celebrated our appearance at the football European Championship finals but unfortunately as this is written it's difficult to celebrate. However, " We shall not sleep, though poppies grow" and in true Scottish determination we at Smithton continue to look to the future.
Finishing on a brighter note, we have discos coming up so come on everyone let's boogie!
