Week Review

Writer's picture: Smithton PrimarySmithton Primary

Well, this is our new platform for school blog, news, reviews, and anything to do with sharing what is happening in Smithton ELC and School. Thank you to Roewen's mum, Chloe for setting up and organising our new website and blog.

From Roewen - It's a happy Mr Lyon.

Many will have noticed that our Head Teacher vacancy has been readvertised. In the Interim, Mr Lyon will continue to co-ordinate our excellent school so that our new Head Teacher knows that they are joining something good.

We had a visitor from Education Scotland this week to see what our Family Team were doing as they were gathering evidence of great practice. She loved our school ethos.

We have very thoughtful children. Molly O'Brien from Mr Hardie's class ran the Inverness 5K. Molly thought that everybody in school should benefit from more resources so she decided herself to do a sponsorship. She raised over £200 pounds - incredible!

On Friday 3rd of May we will be holding a fundraising day in aid of the Leanne Fund. Chloe, Lily and Paige from P6RJ have organised activities for each class in the school and we are asking that you come dressed in rainbow colours and bring a small donation for the Leanne Fund (optional). The Leanne Fund is Scotland’s main Cystic Fibrosis charity and you can find out more at https://www.theleannefund.co.uk/.

Mr Lyon had a fascinating conversation with Evan Iwaszkiewicz of Miss Scott's class. He has passed his weekend Polish exams in various subjects, eg. Biology. Evan told me he's going to now go to see a show in Aberdeen. Well deserved reward Evan. 👋.

Our star award winners at assembly are here below. What a great start to our new term. 🎖️

Classes began to explore what is called Interdisciplinary Learning this week. The class find ways of meeting cross curricular expectations by gathering ideas of what they already know about a certain topic/question. The class then plan their learning to answer key learning objectives to find out more advanced things. Here's a snapshot of P7 (Miss Scott's 7) using an app called jamboard to gather their ideas.

Our Termly calendar of dates is almost ready so be on lookout next week for our events.

Also be on the lookout for extra rewards chosen by our PSAs using a new school badge machine to reward our super citizens in and around school and playground.

There's also been a very special delivery for P7s that's currently being checked and processed. You'll hear about this very soon.

Thank you as always for your continuing support in many ways to help us all to believe that we can achieve great things.
