Spirit of Smithton is all about someone who embraces the support given from adults and friends to become an enthusiastic learner so that a child's true ability shines through.
An example of this was shared at our final gathering in Smithton Church through a story written by Millie Maclennan in P6.
"One day in 1920 there was a huge broken ship along the coast. The waves gave the ship a hard slap. The people on the ship went pale as a ghost when they spotted a wave rising higher and higher as it came closer and closer it roared as the wave pummelling the boat over and over again. The clouds grumbled as the rain crashed. The captain was building up his fury and he shrieked as the rain bombed down on his frozen body .
“I will not give up you rotten sea!” he bellowed.
They tugged at the crooked old main sail as they tried to pull it down. The ship shivered as the rocky waves hit.
“We won't make it captain “ squawked the sailor as he trembled and climbed offer the side of the ship. “I can’t do this!”, he screamed as he jumped into the sea . Everyone saw him go deep down it the dark sea.
“Get back to work, if we stop, we will all disappear in the dingy sea,” shouted the captain.
The sea was furious as the bitter sea salt punched the captains face . The ship was disappearing into the sea and all the men peacefully went under the water never to be seen again.
The rain cried as the sunlight came creeping through and the boat looked like it was never on the sad sea."
Millie, epitomises what our learners produce when embracing the support and encouragement from our Smithton learning community.
Each class has a person chosen who has over the year shown what our Spirit of Smithton is all about.

And we closed our gathering with the following statement,
Being in our school creates a community of trust, support, friendship and appreciation towards each other and our community.
This message is evident to all who visit our ELC and School.
So it's a thank you to all the pupils who make it a special place to be : the staff kitchen, cleaning, janitorial, clerical, PSAs, Family Team and Teaching, who all play their collective part (party).
Our Parent Council fully add to our ethos as well as all the parents who send their children to our huge learning party!
And so we go into our Golden Year of existence as our school opened in August 1974. We look forward to lots of Golden moments to come next session.
We now officially welcome our new Head Teacher Mr MacIver and wish everyone a fantastic Summer.
See you all in August.
